PAD {Peripheral Artery Disease} is the narrowing of blood vessels that carry blood outside the heart and often goes unnoticed. The narrowing is caused by a build up of plaque inside of the blood vessel. As the vessel becomes narrower, blood cannot flow and deliver oxygen and nutrients to your legs, arms and brain.
Risk Factors
The main risk factor is cigarette smoking. Other risk factors include diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. A family history of PAD, heart disease or stroke may also increase your risk.
